DETERMINING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently operate, maintain, modify, troubleshoot and repair Waste Water Treatment Plants and Water Distribution Systems, and the mechanical equipment associated with sewage collection and processing systems. Start and stop pumps, motors, engines, etc. to control and regulate the flow of sewage through the processing phases. Monitor and control the physical and chemical characteristic of the water and waste being treated so that potable water or W/W plant effluents meet the standards for quality established by Federal, State and local health authorities. Calibrate W/W plant instrumentation and systems controls using electronic, mechanical, chemical and electrical test equipment. Operate engines and equipment that drive water pumps, as required. Assist in the maintenance, repair and adjustment of plumbing systems, such as water, drain lines, sprinkler systems, etc. Assist in the rebuilding, modifying and testing of plumbing systems.
Operate specialized motive equipment such as vacuum tank trucks with attached accessories (vacuum pumps, hoses, valves, controls loading lifts, etc.) to pick up, haul and discharge raw sewage, wasted sludge and to relocate portable sanitary facilities. According to manufacturers recommendations; mix, apply, discharge, transport and store chemicals used to maintain sanitary facilities. Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignments.
Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with verbal information, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publications, instruction bulletins and applicable National, State and municipal specifications, codes and ordinances.
Sample and analyze water and treat, as required.
Inspect, maintain or repair special tools, jigs, fittings and instruments assigned.
May operate gas welding equipment to perform cutting, burning and soldering, as necessary, to accomplish work assignment.
Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.
Must maintain security clearance, area permit(s), licenses, certifications, etc. required for performance of assigned tasks.
Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License.
Performs other related and/or associated duties as required.
This classification may include managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities.
High school diploma or equivalent with specialized training from a vocational, community college, or accredited institution. Five years experience in water and or wastewater treatment.
Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Class B CDL within one year of employment.
Must be able to pass applicable medical certification.
Must possess or obtain and maintain a Water Distribution Systems Operator Level 3 license within one year.
Water Distribution/Wastewater Collection Certifications and Water Treatment certification(s) preferred.
FEDEP Water Treatment Class C License or higher preferred
