Our Position: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Drives dump truck hauling gravel and mud. Hauls equipment on trailers attached to vehicle. Repairs and constructs water lines, sanitary sewer mains, and water and sewer services using approved methods. Repairs water leaks. Delivers equipment and materials to work sites. Uses a variety of tools such as shovels, jackhammers, concrete saws and welders. Ensures truck is stocked with necessary materials and tools, and all equipment is ready for the next job.\u00a0Prepares vehicle mileage and maintenance records and performs routine maintenance on assigned vehicle\/equipment. Uses proper safety apparel, procedures and equipment.\u00a0Subject to call-back work and must be capable of responding to an emergency situation upon short notice. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists with snow removal work crews as requested by the Public Works Department. Assists other work groups in the Water and Power Department and performs other duties as assigned.\u00a0Cleans and returns tools and equipment so that they are available for future use.\u00a0Keeps accurate and meaningful records.\u00a0Maintains assigned equipment to specifications; i.e., uses correct fuel, checks gauges, fluid levels, and makes sure equipment is clean both inside and out.\u00a0Performs limited lead worker responsibilities to make decisions and take responsibility on assigned tasks or projects.\u00a0Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY DUTIES: The incumbent does not supervise the work of others. Our Candidate: Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of operational procedures of construction equipment, hazards and necessary safety precautions common to equipment operation. Ability to recognize and report abnormal operating function of equipment. General knowledge of construction methods and equipment. General knowledge of safety practices and procedures of the department including confined space, trench, traffic control, and personal protective equipment. Ability to operate equipment and use tools in all kinds of weather. General knowledge of pipe materials and repair parts used by the department. Working knowledge of distribution and collection systems. Working knowledge of tap and meter installations. Must have ability to work with customers and contractors in a positive manner.\u00a0Operates assigned equipment safely under all conditions; i.e., weather, stress, time of day, etc.\u00a0 Core competencies: Accountability, Collaboration, Courtesy and kindness, Innovation, Integrity, Safety, Service Job specific competencies : Job Knowledge, Equipment Operation, Reporting, Community Relations, Responsiveness Education and\/or formal training: Must possess a valid Colorado Class B commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements. Possession of a CDL instruction permit may substitute. Must be able to obtain both a Colorado Class\u00a01 Water Distribution and Colorado Class\u00a01 Wastewater Collection System certificate within 2 years of hire. Experience: 1 year of experience performing duties in the labor\/trades areas along with 1 year of experience driving a dump truck required. Working Environment and Required Background Checks: Work is generally performed outside and occasionally during inclement weather. Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Strenuous physical work may involve moving, positioning, bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling and pushing or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently. Manual dexterity is required to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools, power tools and motor vehicles. Work may involve long hours and require working overtime, after hours, holidays, weekends, etc. Mandatory duty rotation will include after-hour and weekend work. Must be able to make sound decisions while on duty. Required to wear pager or cellular phone while on duty.
