; and create an employment list that may be used to fill future full-time vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list.

 

The position performs a variety of skilled tasks in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant, including primary, secondary, and solids treatment processes and provides lead supervision of operator personnel.



THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate can learn the plant systems and processes of the WCWD quickly and then in turn provide lead supervision and direction to the operational and maintenance staff at the wastewater treatment plant. 

 

In addition, the ideal candidate:
Will show their passion to work with others in a positive environment and inspire them through their knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of supervision.
Has the ability to value and motivate staff to learn standards and operational processes and lead staff to develop a fully functional team.
Has at least three (4) years' experience in a wastewater treatment facility in a position comparable to a plant operator.  
Has advanced knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, including primary, secondary, and solids processes; hazardous gases associated with sewage; and standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in mechanical or electrical repair of minor and major mechanical equipment systems.
Can inspect plant equipment and recognize inefficient, unusual, or dangerous operating conditions.
Can perform process control tests, troubleshoot and adjust plant operations accordingly.
Can adapt and adjust staff operating schedules to meet changing conditions or emergencies.
Can perform mathematics as required to perform the responsibilities of the position including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Can apply safe working practices, safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.
Can perform task needed to enter data and pull reports related to computer-based Maintenance Program.
Can maintain basic records and prepare clear and concise written and oral reports of work performed.
Can understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Can read, understand, and follow work rules and procedures.
Can establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Possesses a current valid Grade III California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
SELECTION PROCESS

 

1. Each candidate will be evaluated for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (Pass/Fail), educational course work, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities

that relate to this position.

 

2. An Application Appraisal (Pass/Fail), will be conducted to evaluate each candidates' application, supplemental questionnaire, and resume.

 

3. Depending on the number of qualified candidates, a Phone Interview may be held (Pass/Fail).

 

4. Candidates will then be invited to participate in the Oral/Performance Examination (Pass/Fail).

 

5. The probationary period is the final phase of the selection process. 



Candidates must attain a passing score in each phase of the selection process.
