The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) has a vacancy for a Wastewater Treatment Foreman, Correction to monitor, operate, and maintain two wastewater treatment facilities, related piping, pumping, and irrigation systems. This announcement will be used for the South Boise Complex to include Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Boise Women's Correctional Center (SBWCC), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI), and Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI).

Note:
Incumbent will be exposed to chemical products for lagoon treatment and pest and vegetation control. Outside work in all weather conditions and night/off-duty call-backs may be required. The work involves periodically lifting and carrying approximately 100 pounds, climbing ladders, working and carrying items on uneven terrain, and bending and stooping.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate and adjust lagoon aerators, water diversion stop-logs, residual analyzer, chlorination and related treatment equipment
Add chemicals to prescribed standards and draw samples of water for laboratory tests and analysis
Perform routine chemical analysis of wastewater and change process based on test results
Oversee cleaning and maintenance of structures, lagoons, and equipment for sanitation
Perform preventive maintenance on sewer lines, pumps, valves, sprinkler equipment, motors, regulators, tools, and related equipment
Operate internal combustion engines, sewer rodder, chemical sprayers, weed burners, suction pumps, and electrical powered hand tools, motorized line irrigation equipment
Inspect and repair lagoon aerators, raw sewage grinders, pumps and motors, diversion stop-logs, injectors, valves, regulators, chlorinators, and irrigation equipment
Use drills, grinders, backhoe, oxygen/acetylene equipment, cleaning solvents, and caustic products in repair and maintenance operations
Hire, train, evaluate performance, and maintain custody of assigned offenders
Supervise issuance and custody of tools and equipment as well as conduct searches for tools, weapons, and contraband
Prepare requisitions for purchase of tools, equipment and chemicals, submit estimates for maintenance and repair costs, and maintain records and inventories
Prepare and submit DEQ wastewater discharge monitoring, chlorination, and water testing reports
Operate and maintain farming equipment associated with grass and hay crops
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess or be able to obtain the following licensures within 18 months of hire: Wastewater Treatment License I, Wastewater Collection License I, and Land Application License
Good knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment utilized with wastewater treatment and storage lagoon systems.
Good knowledge of wastewater treatment chemicals and their safe use and storage.
Good knowledge of wastewater sample collection procedures.
Some knowledge of supervisory practices
Experience making cost estimates for equipment repair and replacement.
Valid driver's license
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
Having a history of law-abiding behavior
Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
EXAMINATION:
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) - In compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003, we are required to obtain certain information in the exam/interview process and consider specific information when making hiring and selection decisions for positions that have contact with inmates in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution... The PREA Standards do not require we obtain this information for positions not within a correctional facility such as Probation & Parole and Central Office positions. Again, these changes are being implemented in order for the department to the meet the requirement of PREA standards.
