Overall Job Objective Description What We DoThe Water Division operates and maintains Rapid City's water collection, treatment and distribution systems, provides metering and billing services, and partners with other divisions on capital and special projects, water system expansion and the acquisition of water rights. Please visit Water Services for additional division information. Position Details About Our JobThe Department of Public Works, Water Division, is seeking an experienced Water Production Operator II that will operate and maintain the Water Treatment Supply Facilities.  This position is part of the AFSCME union.  Applications received within the work unit will be considered first. Job duties may include (but are not limited to):Operates (10) ten ton craneMaintain plumbing, carpentry and concrete workPerforms preventative maintenance on related equipmentFor a complete and detailed job description, click here.About YouWe are looking for an experienced, certified operator that has or the ability to obtain (within 18 months of hire) a Class II Water Treatment Operator's Certification for licensing by the State of South Dakota Board of Operator Certification.  Our ideal candidate will have experience working with municipal government and/or utility services.    We understand your time is valuable, so we encourage you to apply if you possess the following minimum requirements:High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Two years experience in Class I water operations or two years in a Class II or higher facility Additional Information Pre-employment Screening:  An offer of employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check. DRUG FREE WORKPLACE:  Effective January 1, 1994, a pre-employment drug screen is required prior to employment in any posted City position.  A confirmed positive drug screen or evidence of applicant tampering with the sample will be basis for denial of employment for a period of six months from the date of testing.  If you have concerns regarding this policy, please contact the City Human Resources Division. Application must be received by the Human Resources Department by closing date and time stated above.  Applications and information may be obtained from the City website at
