Job Description Description: Applicant will work 10am-630pm during training phase. After training phase will be assigned to a shift. Shifts are: 6am-230pm, 2pm-1030pm and 10pm-630am. Days off will be Fri\/Sat, Sun\/Mon, or Tues\/Wed The Operator in Training performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. Learns and gains skills involving the maintenance of equipment and servicing work in the plant Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water\/wastewater, sludge, and effluent Operates valves and gates manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels Observes and reports abnormalities to supervisor Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties Assists in keeping maintenance records using a CMMS system, develop computer spreadsheets, and use Word and Excel Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work Performs other duties as required Performs Job Hazard Analysis Job Requirements Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required Possess a valid driver\u2019s license Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water\/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water\/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices Knowledge or previous experience in water or wastewater treatment and operations Knowledge of SCADA, PLC and VFD systems Has applicable OSHA training including but not limited to Confined Space Entry and Lockout\/Tag out procedures Ability to read and interpret construction plans, prints, specifications and Operations and Maintenance Manuals Very important: will be required to obtain the NJDEP wastewater state license within 24 months of employment.
